Hyperbolic Wavelet-Fisz denoising for a model arising in Ultrasound Imaging
International audienceWe present an algorithm and its fully data-driven extension for noise reduction in ultrasound imaging. Our proposed method computes the hyperbolic wavelet transform of the image, before applying a multiscale variance stabilization technique, via a Fisz transformation. This adapts the wavelet coefficients statistics to the wavelet thresholding paradigm. The aim of the hyperbolic setting is to recover the image while respecting the anisotropic nature of structural details. The data-driven extension removes the need for any prior knowledge of the noise model parameters by estimating the noise variance using an isotonic Nadaraya-Watson estimator. Experiments on synthetic and real data, and comparisons with other noise reduction methods demonstrate the potential of our method at recovering ultrasound images while preserving tissue details. Finally, we emphasize the noise model we consider by applying our variance estimation procedure on real images

Bilinear modelling and estimation of displacement for thyroid cancer elasticity imaging
In this study we present a tissue motion modelling and estimation method for elasticity imaging with ultrasound applied
to thyroid cancer. Elasticity image of tumor and surrounding tissue of thyroid gland is acquired under a freehand tissue
compression using a standard ultrasound probe. The complexity of the movements to analyze requires the development
of a parametric model of the displacement and a specific estimation method adapted to sub-pixel displacement. The
motion model is a bilinear model with 8 parameters. The model parameters are estimated using a multi-scale iterative
approach. This approach was tested on simulation images and clinical data. The first clinical results show the interest
and the potential of such imaging technique for the visualization of thyroid tumors.

Displacement field formation from rough signals. Application to synthetic aperture ultrasonic imaging

Quantitative Comparison of 3D Freehand Ultrasound and MRI Images of the Neonatal Brain
International audiencePremature neonates' care can be improved by a quantitative evaluation of brain structures. In current clinical practice, first-line diagnosis is done qualitatively with 2D cranial ultrasonography (cUS) images. These patients would benefit from an evolution to a quantitative analysis based on 3D cUS. A way to obtain high quality 3D cUS images is to use a reconstruction algorithm based on the clinician acquisition motion. In this paper we assess the accuracy of such reconstruction by comparing brain structures between MRI and 3D renconstructed cUS. This comparison was performed based on manual contours, we obtained a mean Dice value of 0.72 ± 0.05 for thalami and ventricles and a mean volume error of 10 ± 5.7%. In addition, the contour interpolation method that we used significantly improved Dice and volume error compared to nearest neighbor approach
